After two successful seasons at the helm of the Connecticut Sun, Stephanie White will not be returning as the team’s head coach next year. Connecticut announced on Monday that they have mutually parted ways with White, who led the Sun to a 55-25 record in two seasons and two consecutive playoff appearances.
White, who won the WNBA Coach of the Year award in 2023 in her first season with the Sun, started the 2024 season strong with a nine-game winning streak. However, the team ultimately finished in third place and fell short of a spot in the WNBA Finals after losing to the Minnesota Lynx in the playoffs.
White is now exploring her options for her next coaching opportunity. She has reportedly been in talks with multiple teams, including the Indiana Fever and Chicago Sky. The Fever recently fired head coach Christie Sides, while the Sky let go of Teresa Weatherspoon last month.
White’s departure from Connecticut adds to the growing number of head coaching vacancies in the WNBA this offseason. The Washington Mystics, Dallas Wings, Los Angeles Sparks, and Atlanta Dream are among the other teams currently searching for new leadership.
It remains to be seen where White will end up next, but her successful tenure with the Sun has certainly put her in the running for other head coaching positions in the league.
