Nine-year-old Scarlett Campbell from Berlin showed her support for the family of fallen Wethersfield firefighter Robert “Sharky” Sharkevich Sr. by handing over a $137 check. Sharkevich died after the UTV he was riding in rolled over while working to contain a brush fire in Berlin. The fire had spread to about 100 acres by Thursday night.
The heartfelt gesture from Scarlett, who raised the money through her lemonade stand, was a symbol of community support for Sharkevich’s family during this difficult time. His brother, Gary Sharkevich, expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support they received from the community.
Sharkevich Jr. also spoke about the impact of the community’s support, describing it as both overwhelming and comforting. He shared that his brother had served as a firefighter in Hartford for 25 years before his tragic passing while responding to a brush fire.
Scarlett’s act of kindness was not her first fundraiser. Earlier this year, she raised funds for the family of Trooper First Class Aaron Pelletier, showing her commitment to supporting those who serve their communities.
The Sharkevich family is grateful for the outpouring of support during this challenging time. The donation from Scarlett and others in the community serves as a reminder of the strength and unity that can arise in times of loss.
