Rapper Lil Durk, real name Durk Devontay Banks, was arrested by U.S. Marshals on a charge of murder for hire in Florida. This arrest comes after five people associated with his hip hop collective, “Only the Family,” were arrested on a federal indictment in California for committing a murder for hire in revenge for the death of a fellow group member. The indictment alleges that the murder was carried out as a result of a physical altercation at a nightclub in Atlanta where a high-ranking OTF member was killed. The death is thought to be that of rapper King Von, who was part of OTF. The indictment claims that members of OTF, along with co-conspirators, tracked and attempted to kill the individual involved in the altercation, resulting in the death of a passenger in the individual’s vehicle instead. The five men charged were involved in using interstate facilities to commit murder for hire resulting in death, including the possession and use of firearms. Lil Durk, as the founder of OTF, was not directly implicated in the murder but his association with the collective has raised questions about his involvement. The men have not yet retained attorneys and it remains to be seen how their legal proceedings will unfold.
