Funeral arrangements have been announced for Firefighter Robert “Sharkey” Sharkevich, Sr., who tragically lost his life while fighting a fire in Berlin on Tuesday. Sharkevich, 66, was a beloved member of the Wethersfield volunteer fire department and a retired Hartford firefighter.
A wake for Sharkevich will take place on Sunday from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home in Wethersfield. The funeral service will be held at the Cathedral of St. Joseph in Hartford on Monday at 11 a.m., followed by burial at Rose Hill Memorial Park in Rocky Hill.
Sharkevich was riding in a utility task vehicle during the firefighting operation when the vehicle rolled over. He was killed in the accident, while three other firefighters were injured but have since been released from the hospital.
Sharkevich’s death has deeply impacted the firefighting community in Connecticut, with an outpouring of support and condolences for his family and colleagues. His dedication and service to his community will be remembered and honored during his funeral service as he is laid to rest.
