Sabrina Ionescu, the star of the New York Liberty, revealed in an interview with Complex Sports that the only person she responded to immediately after winning the WNBA championship was Golden State Warriors superstar Steph Curry. She shared a celebratory FaceTime call with Curry, where they both screamed in excitement. Curry had been supporting and mentoring Ionescu throughout the season, and his congratulatory message meant a lot to her.
Before their FaceTime call, Curry had also sent Ionescu a funny voice memo screaming in excitement after she made an iconic shot in Game 3 of the Finals. Despite some tough shooting games towards the end of the series, Ionescu played a crucial role in securing the Liberty’s first-ever championship.
Throughout the playoffs, Ionescu averaged 16.9 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 5.3 assists per game, helping the Liberty sweep the Atlanta Dream, eliminate the Las Vegas Aces, and defeat the Minnesota Lynx in a thrilling Finals series. Her close relationship with Curry, both on and off the court, has been instrumental in her success, and their celebratory screams of victory were a fitting end to a memorable season for the young star.
