A brush fire broke out on Monday evening on Lamentation Mountain in Berlin, Connecticut. The fire department stated that homes are not currently in danger, but the terrain is challenging and access to the area is difficult. Crews from four towns are working to contain the fire, which is located about 400 to 500 yards from residential areas. While the wind is blowing in the opposite direction, evacuations are not necessary at this time.
Residents expressed concern about the unprecedented situation in Berlin, citing the risk posed by dead trees in wooded areas due to recent storms. Fire Chief Jonn Massirio mentioned the possibility of using water drops to combat the fire, which may require a two to three day operation. Crews are expected to work throughout the night and into the morning.
The cause of the brush fire has not yet been determined, and the fire department urged residents to refrain from flying personal drones in the area. The situation is ongoing, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
