Electoral Denial and Roe v. Wade Overturning Drive Voters Away, Economic Proposals Shift Focus

According to a recent NBC News poll, voters are less likely to support candidates who deny the results of the 2020 election or who are in favor of overturning Roe v. Wade. The top issues for voters in this election include the economy, inflation, abortion, immigration, and democracy. Some popular policies among voters include candidates who support expanding domestic oil and gas production, offering a $6,000 federal child tax credit, and taxing large corporations to help control inflation. However, tariffs as high as 20% on goods from all countries were not as popular among voters. Denying the 2020 election results is the least popular position tested in the survey among voters across various demographics, except for Trump’s voter base. Trump is in a close race with Vice President Kamala Harris in the poll, with voters judging the candidates on various issues. Voters are more likely to support candidates who advocate for deploying the military to the border to stop illegal drugs and human trafficking, as well as increasing deportations of undocumented immigrants. On the topic of abortion, a majority of voters support a federal law restoring a nationwide right to an abortion, while the Supreme Court’s decision overturning Roe v. Wade is largely unpopular. The poll was conducted from October 4-8 and surveyed 1,000 registered voters, with an overall margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points.
