An explosion at Harbor One Marina in Old Saybrook resulted in one person being taken to the hospital with serious injuries, according to the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection. The incident occurred when a 38-foot cabin cruiser exploded while refueling. The owner of the boat was knocked into the water but was able to swim to safety with the help of a bystander. The boat was half submerged with an active fuel leak, which was being contained with a sorbent boom. The vessel will need to be righted before the fuel can be offloaded. Dave Clift, a witness to the explosion, described the terrifying experience of seeing black smoke fill the sky. Minimal damage was reported to the dock, and no other boats were affected. Further details about the incident were not immediately available. The incident is still under investigation, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
