Marathon weekend is in full swing in Hartford, with the Eversource Hartford Marathon, Half Marathon, Team Relay, and Charity 5K taking place on Saturday morning. More than 9,300 participants are expected to take part in the races, leading to road closures and heavy traffic in the area.
Josh Miller, president of the Hartford Marathon Association, emphasized the hard work that goes into preparing for the event, with a small team and volunteers dedicated to making it a success. The marathon also has a positive impact on the local economy, with runners staying in hotels and dining at local restaurants during their visit.
Hartford Mayor Arunan Arulampalam highlighted the sense of community the event brings, with runners from all over the country participating. One runner from Alabama is set to complete his 220th race in Hartford, marking his 50th state to run in.
Road closure information can be found on the event’s website, and runners have been picking up their race packets at the XL Center in Hartford since Thursday night, with packet pickup continuing on Friday.
The races are scheduled to begin at 8 a.m., with wheelchair races starting five minutes earlier. The event promises to be a day filled with excitement, camaraderie, and a boost to the local economy.
