Royal Caribbean sued for privacy violation due to hidden cameras placed by former crew member in state rooms

Royal Caribbean is facing legal trouble after passengers filed a lawsuit over hidden cameras placed in state rooms by a former employee, Arvin Mirasol. Mirasol, who has since been fired and is serving prison time, used the cameras to secretly record passengers, including videos of naked females undressing and child pornography. The lawsuit alleges that Mirasol also hid under beds to record passengers while they were naked in the shower. The lawsuit, filed in Miami’s federal court, focuses on a time frame when Mirasol was working aboard the Symphony of the Seas, and it is believed that upwards of a thousand people could have been affected. The plaintiffs’ attorney, Michael Winkleman, believes Royal Caribbean should also be held accountable for not notifying potentially affected passengers. The cruise line has terminated Mirasol and reported the case to law enforcement, but has not provided further comments due to pending litigation. The lawsuit aims to bring attention to the issue of hidden cameras on cruise lines and seeks justice for the victims, many of whom have experienced anxiety and worry as a result of the invasion of privacy. Winkleman hopes that this lawsuit will lead to changes in the law to protect passengers from similar incidents in the future.
