A former movie theater in New Haven has been converted into a new childcare center known as the Friends Center Flint Street Family Campus. The center celebrated its grand opening on Friday with four classrooms that can accommodate 32 infants and toddlers. Featuring some of the original theater’s elements such as an actual theater and concession stand, the center aims to serve the community with quality childcare services.
The center operates on a sliding scale tuition, adjusting fees based on the parents’ income. Some families have reported spending between $16,000 and $20,000 per child on childcare expenses. The goal of the Friends Center is to provide affordable and accessible childcare for families of all socio-economic backgrounds, ensuring that all children have access to quality care.
Future plans for the campus include the construction of a new building to accommodate 48 children, as well as the addition of a library, space for teacher training, and a resource hub. The center aims to provide a holistic approach to childcare that considers the well-being of the entire family.
With a focus on equity and affordability, the Friends Center Flint Street Family Campus is poised to become a valuable resource for families in New Haven. To learn more about the center, visit their website.
