New England Patriots safety Jabrill Peppers was arrested over the weekend on charges including assault and possession of cocaine. The incident occurred after police responded to a disturbance at a residential address early Saturday morning. Peppers, 29, appeared in court on Monday for a brief arraignment hearing, where not guilty pleas were entered on all counts. He was ordered to have no contact with the alleged victim and posted a $2500 bail.
Peppers, a team captain, did not play in Sunday’s game against the Miami Dolphins due to a shoulder injury. He has been with the Patriots for three seasons after stints with the New York Giants and Cleveland Browns. A New Jersey native, Peppers is scheduled for his next court appearance on Nov. 22, although he has waived the right to be present.
The Patriots issued a statement acknowledging the incident and stating that they are aware of the ongoing police investigation. They provided no further comment at this time. Peppers’ attorney claimed in court that there is evidence casting doubt on the allegations against his client. The victim in the incident was treated by emergency medical services, but no information on their condition has been released.
