NBC Connecticut reports on ‘SNL’ spoofing the VP debate in cold open


The second episode of the 50th season of “Saturday Night Live” featured a star-studded election cast returning to the cold open, with Jim Gaffigan playing Tim Walz and Bowen Yang playing JD Vance in a debate sketch. Maya Rudolph as Vice President Kamala Harris and Andy Samberg as Doug Emhoff watched the mock debate from their residence. The sketch poked fun at the cordialness of the VP candidates as well as Vance’s criticism of fact-checking and Walz’s nervousness. Dana Carvey made an appearance as President Joe Biden and gave his critique of Walz’s performance. At the end of the sketch, Carvey smashed an ice cream cone into Rudolph as Harris’s face jokingly. Comedian Nate Bargatze hosted the episode with musical guest Coldplay. Another humorous sketch featured Bargatze as George Washington. The episode brought laughs and entertainment to viewers as the show continues to entertain audiences in its milestone 50th season.
