Far-right European leaders gathered at a rally hosted by Italy’s far-right League party in Pontida, Italy on Sunday. The event was attended by Matteo Salvini, Italy’s deputy prime minister and leader of The League, along with prominent figures such as Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and Dutch far-right leader Geert Wilders. The rally took place amidst legal challenges facing Salvini for his anti-immigration stance during his time as Italy’s interior minister.
Salvini addressed the crowd, calling for immigrants who commit crimes to lose their citizenship and defending his anti-migrant policies. He also commented on recent clashes in Rome between pro-Palestinian protesters and police, blaming the left for extremism and Islamic radicalism.
Orbán, a highly anticipated guest, praised Salvini for his efforts to close borders and defend European homes. He criticized ongoing legal proceedings against Salvini and threatened to bring illegal immigrants to Brussels if the EU does not act.
Other far-right leaders also expressed support for Salvini, with French National Rally president Jordan Bardella and Dutch far-right leader Geert Wilders defending Salvini’s actions and characterizing him as a hero persecuted for his beliefs.
The rally drew support from various far-right figures across Europe, with attendees praising Salvini’s efforts to protect European countries from mass illegal immigration. The event highlighted a growing alliance among far-right politicians who advocate for stricter borders and nationalism across the continent.
