In a stunning upset, Vanderbilt defeated top-ranked Alabama 40-35 for their first win over a top-five team in 60 attempts. Sedrick Alexander ran for two touchdowns, Randon Fontenette scored a Pick-6, and Diego Pavia outplayed Heisman candidate Jalen Milroe. Vanderbilt took a 16-point lead in the first half, their largest ever against a No. 1 team, and held on for the historic victory. Alabama, coming off an emotional win over Georgia, made too many mistakes and penalties, allowing Vanderbilt to capitalize. Despite a late rally by Alabama, Vanderbilt sealed the win with a 6-yard TD pass to Kamrean Johnson. The victory marked coach Clark Lea’s biggest win with his alma mater. Vanderbilt fans and players celebrated as Pavia ran out the clock, securing a memorable win over the top-ranked team in the country.
