Tragedy struck a rehab facility in Cromwell, Connecticut, as an 82-year-old man fatally shot his 81-year-old wife before taking his own life. The incident occurred in the wife’s room with no witnesses present, leaving both individuals dead at the scene. The husband, Dennis Brandt, and his wife, Barbara Brandt, were found by staff who immediately called 911, but unfortunately, help arrived too late. Barbara had been a resident at the facility since 2021 and did not have a roommate at the time of the shooting. According to Michael Landi, Apple Rehab’s vice president of operations, there were no previous threats and the motive behind the tragic event remains unknown. The focus now is on providing support and counseling services to staff and residents impacted by the incident. Both Cromwell and state police, along with the medical examiner’s office, are investigating the circumstances surrounding the murder-suicide. In light of this devastating event, the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline is available 24/7 for anyone in crisis or emotional distress, offering support via phone, text, or online chat.
