Tropical Storm Milton formed in the Gulf of Mexico and is expected to strengthen into a hurricane, bringing life-threatening conditions to Florida’s west coast next week. Maximum sustained winds are currently at 40 mph, with the potential for higher gusts. Hurricane and storm surge watches may be issued for certain regions of the state. Heavy rainfall is expected to impact parts of Florida on Sunday and Monday, increasing the risk of flooding. Pinellas County is providing sandbags to residents in preparation for the storm. The system may also bring two to four inches of rain to the northern Yucatán Peninsula and western Cuba. The National Hurricane Center is warning those in these areas, as well as in the Florida Peninsula, the Florida Keys, and the Bahamas, to closely monitor the storm for potential impacts. It is still too early to determine the exact path and impact of Tropical Storm Milton, but residents in these areas should stay informed and prepared for severe weather conditions.
