The new BioCity Lab in New Haven is now open at 101 College St., the culmination of a dream that began during the COVID-19 pandemic. The lab is a collaborative effort between the City of New Haven, New Haven Public Schools, area universities, and BioLabs’ owner.
The program at BioCity Lab offers high school students the opportunity to earn college credits in STEM-related fields and gain experience in a laboratory setting. 15 students from local high schools will participate in the program during its first year, working alongside scientists on various STEM and research projects.
Students participating in the program are enthusiastic about the opportunity, as it allows them to gain real-world experience and interact with professionals in the field. In addition to academics, the program also offers students “prime time,” a period in the day dedicated to seeking help and support.
The building’s owner, Carter Winstanley, expressed his excitement for the students’ presence in the building, noting that the 28 tenants in the building are fortunate to have them around. Overall, the BioCity Lab represents a unique opportunity for students to gain valuable experience and knowledge for the future while also benefiting the scientific community in New Haven.
