Soccer team from India declines to travel to Iran due to concerns about security – NBC Connecticut


Mohun Bagan Super Giants of India has decided not to travel to Iran for an Asian Champions League Two match against Tractor SC due to security concerns in the region. The club has requested the match to be rescheduled. Meanwhile, in the Asian Champions League Elite, Al-Hilal of Saudi Arabia secured a 5-0 victory over Al-Shorta of Iraq.

In other matches, Al-Gharafa of Qatar defeated Al-Ain of the UAE 4-2. The tournament features 24 teams divided into two groups, with the top eight from each group advancing to the round of 16.

Gwangju FC of South Korea claimed a 1-0 victory over Kawasaki Frontale of Japan, while Pohang Steelers of South Korea bounced back from an opening-round loss with a 3-0 win over Shanghai Port. Shanghai Shenhua lost by the same score to Johor of Malaysia, and Buriram United of Thailand won 2-1 against Central Coast Mariners from Australia.

The Asian Football Confederation will review Mohun Bagan’s request to reschedule their match against Tractor SC and update the relevant committees accordingly. The tournament continues to showcase the best in Asian football talent, with exciting matches and unexpected results keeping fans on the edge of their seats.
