Police responded to concerns of a possible active shooter at East Hampton Middle School, prompting a lockdown at four schools in the area. The report came in around 12:30 on Tuesday afternoon when a woman outside the school relayed information about a relative potentially hiding in the school with the intent to harm people. The Middle School and High School were placed in a code red lockdown, followed by two elementary schools as well. A systematic search was conducted to ensure the safety of students and staff.
Law enforcement was unable to locate the suspect connected to the incident and are continuing their investigation. It is believed the person involved may have known students at the middle school. Police have expressed concerns that mental health issues could have been a factor in this incident.
Fortunately, the lockdowns have been lifted, but as a precaution, extra patrols will be added to provide a sense of security for those involved. Police will be present at the four schools in question to ensure the safety of students and staff members. Despite the ongoing investigation, authorities are urging individuals in the community to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to law enforcement.
