A volunteer from the Salvation Army in Connecticut is on the ground in Atlanta, Georgia, providing disaster relief following Hurricane Helene. The organization’s Eastern Territory volunteers are helping in the most devastated areas in the South, including parts of Georgia, the Carolinas, Tennessee, and Florida. They are offering meals, water, comfort kits, and emotional and spiritual support to those affected by the storm.
Maj. Migdalia Lavenbein, a Salvation Army coordinator in Greater Hartford, has been working with the organization for 27 years and is currently stationed in Atlanta as a liaison for Disaster Relief Services. She emphasized the Salvation Army’s commitment to being on the ground and helping people during times of crisis.
Since Hurricane Helene hit, the Salvation Army has served over 100,000 meals and plans to deploy eight more volunteers from Connecticut to assist with relief efforts. Those interested in helping can donate online at www.HelpSalvationArmy.org or by phone at 1-800-SAL-ARMY (1-800-725-2769).
The cleanup and recovery efforts from Hurricane Helene are ongoing, with hundreds of thousands still without power and the death toll from the storm continuing to rise. The Salvation Army remains committed to assisting those in need and providing support during this challenging time.
