Connecticut organizations and volunteers are stepping up to help those affected by Hurricane Helene. Joe Apicelli, a volunteer with the American Red Cross, is preparing to depart for Georgia to provide aid to those impacted by the storm. This will be his 60th national deployment with the organization. Stamford-based Americares is also sending a response team to Florida to assist with relief efforts.
Governor Ned Lamont has approved a request for the Connecticut National Guard to respond to North Carolina to provide assistance with disaster response and relief efforts. They will be transporting personnel, food, water, and equipment to those in need. The Salvation Army in Connecticut is also ready to respond to the aftermath of the hurricane.
Additionally, the state will be sending a search and rescue team to North Carolina to assist for seven days. To support these relief efforts, Nexstar Media, the parent company, is partnering with The American Red Cross to collect donations.
