Israel claimed on Saturday that it had killed Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, marking a significant blow to the Lebanese militant group after months of fighting. The army said several other top Hezbollah commanders were also killed in a precise airstrike in Dahiyeh, south of Beirut.
In response to the attack, Israel’s Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi said that the elimination of Nasrallah was not the end of their efforts. The Israeli military also reported that at least 350 people were killed in strikes on Lebanon, including Ali Karki, the Commander of Hezbollah’s Southern Front.
After the airstrike, the Israeli military mobilized additional reserve soldiers and carried out more strikes in southern Beirut and eastern Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley. Hezbollah retaliated by launching dozens of projectiles across northern and central Israel and the West Bank.
The strikes left Beirut’s southern suburbs devastated, with many families seeking refuge in shelters or fleeing the area on foot. Over 720 people have been killed in Lebanon over the past week due to Israeli airstrikes, according to the Health Ministry.
There has been no independent verification of Nasrallah’s death, and Hezbollah has not made any statements on the matter. The situation remains tense as both sides continue to engage in escalating violence.
