Israel launched a series of airstrikes on the main military headquarters of Hezbollah in Beirut, targeting the leader of the group, Hassan Nasrallah. While there were claims that Nasrallah was present at the time of the strike, his status could not be verified. If Nasrallah was indeed killed, it would signify a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hezbollah.
The Israeli military claimed they targeted the Hezbollah headquarters, accusing them of using residential buildings as human shields. The strikes, using bunker busters, were the largest against Beirut in nearly a year, with the explosions heard across the city, leaving multiple buildings destroyed and causing fires.
The airstrikes were just one of many carried out by Israel against Lebanon, with over 2,000 Hezbollah targets bombed, resulting in casualties on both sides. Lebanon’s health minister reported a death toll of 25 due to Israeli strikes, with hundreds killed since the beginning of the week.
Hezbollah retaliated by firing rockets into Israel, hitting towns near the border. While Israeli air defenses managed to intercept many of the rockets, the attacks have displaced thousands and disrupted daily life in northern Israel. The situation remains tense, with fears of a larger-scale conflict looming between Israel and Hezbollah.
