A new NBC News poll shows that nearly all voters who are familiar with Project 2025, a conservative policy roadmap used by Vice President Kamala Harris and the Democratic Party to criticize former President Donald Trump, view the plan negatively. About 57% of registered voters feel negatively about the plan, with 51% viewing it “very” negatively. Only 4% of voters reported a positive view of Project 2025. Independents and Democrats largely view the plan negatively, with 52% of independents and 85% of Democrats reporting negative feelings. Even 33% of Republicans view the plan negatively. However, voters who identify as “MAGA Republicans” are slightly more positive about Project 2025.
The plan is associated with former top Trump administration officials and is backed by pro-Trump conservative organizations. While Trump praised the group’s work in the past, he has since distanced himself from it. Democrats have made efforts to tie Trump to Project 2025, referring to it as “Trump’s Project 2025 Agenda” and forming a “Stop Project 2025 Task Force.” Despite this, Trump claims to know nothing about the plan and has presented a mixed view of its proposals.
Overall, Project 2025 was the least popular subject tested in the September NBC News poll, including other topics such as socialism, capitalism, presidential candidates, and more. The poll was conducted among 1,000 registered voters with an overall margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points.
