U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has called for the resignation of New York City Mayor Eric Adams, citing chaos and ineffectiveness in his administration. Adams’ administration is facing multiple federal investigations, including the resignation of Police Commissioner Edward Caban amid a probe into the department’s nightclub enforcement. The FBI also searched the homes of senior officials in Adams’ administration, and two former high-ranking fire department chiefs were indicted on bribery charges. Ocasio-Cortez believes the ongoing investigations and resignations are hindering the city’s ability to function properly and recruit qualified staff. She believes Adams should resign for the good of the city. The mayor’s office has not yet commented on Ocasio-Cortez’s statement.
