Tropical Storm Helene is anticipated to make landfall as a major hurricane along Florida’s Gulf Coast later this week. Hurricane warnings have been issued for a wide stretch of the Gulf Coast, from Mexico Beach to the Anclote River. The storm is expected to strengthen into a hurricane on Wednesday and become a major storm by Thursday. Storm surge is predicted to raise water levels by up to 8 feet in Tampa Bay and 3 to 15 feet in other areas. Rainfall totals are expected to reach 8 inches across the southeastern United States. Helene’s large size means that its hazards will affect an extensive area. Hurricane warnings have also been issued for a large section of Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula, from Tulum to Cabo Catoche. Residents in both Florida and Mexico are advised to take precautions and stay informed about the storm’s progress.
