Washington Nationals demote CJ Abrams before Cubs game – NBC Connecticut

All-Star shortstop CJ Abrams of the Washington Nationals has been demoted to the minor leagues due to an internal issue. Manager Dave Martinez stated that Abrams will not play for the big league team for the rest of the season and did not provide specific details about the situation. The decision to option Abrams to Triple-A Rochester will result in a decrease in his salary from $752,400 to $362,100 for the final days of the season. Abrams, who is hitting .246 with 20 homers, 65 RBIs, and 31 stolen bases, will not play for Rochester as they did not qualify for the International League postseason. Instead, he will fly to Washington and then travel to the team’s training complex in West Palm Beach, Florida. Brodie Van Wagenen, Abrams’ agent, declined to comment on the situation. Martinez expressed his support for Abrams despite the demotion and stated that he is a big part of the Nats family. The Nationals went on to secure a 5-1 victory over the Cubs following the announcement of Abrams’ demotion.
