Dozens of horses were rescued from a barn fire at the Big E on Friday night, with all animals accounted for and safe. The fire was reported after the Big E closed, and firefighters arrived at the scene around 11:45 p.m. to find the C Barn fully involved. 161 horses that were stabled in the barn were immediately evacuated and are now recovering from minor injuries. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the West Springfield Fire Association Unit, with assistance from the state police. Despite the incident, normal activities resumed at the Coliseum on Saturday with the 4-H Horse Show. The Big E expressed gratitude for the quick response from their team and authorities, as well as the support from exhibitors during this difficult time. The annual event, which runs through September 29, continues as scheduled.
