India Defeats Bangladesh by 280 Runs in Chennai to Win First Test in Cricket

In a thrilling Test match in Chennai, hometown hero Ravichandran Ashwin shone as he single-handedly led India to victory against Bangladesh. After scoring a century in the first innings, Ashwin took six wickets in the second innings to bowl out Bangladesh for 234, securing a 280-run win for India. The only resistance came from Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto who scored 82 runs.

Ashwin’s spin-bowling partner Ravindra Jadeja also played a key role with three wickets on the final day, while Shanto and Shakib Al Hasan put up a fight before ultimately falling short. India had declared their second innings at 287-4 with centuries from Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant, setting up the win.

India, led by captain Rohit Sharma, dominated the match from early on, with bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah setting the tone by dismissing Bangladesh for 149 in their first innings. The victory gives India a 1-0 lead in the two-match series, with the teams now heading to Kanpur for the second Test.

The win was even more special as it marked the return of players like Pant, who had been out of action due to injury, and the first Test for Virat Kohli since becoming a father for the second time. The result further strengthens India’s position at the top of the World Test Championship rankings as they look to continue their success in the upcoming Test season.
