Couple renews vows at Guilford fair, where they were married

John and Barbara Hammarlund, two volunteers at the Guilford fair, celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary by renewing their vows where they were married 25 years ago. Surrounded by friends and their farm family, the couple had their ceremony on the front porch of a chapel at the fairgrounds. The chapel, originally belonging to Barbara’s grandparents, was moved to the fairgrounds in 1998 and now features a steeple with a bell engraved with their names and wedding date.

The vow renewal ceremony was officiated by Beef show judge Billy Booth, who highlighted the couple’s deep and enduring love throughout the years. John is also celebrating 25 years as the president of the Guilford Agricultural Society, while Barbara serves as the society’s assistant secretary and a director. Their friends and farm family surprised them by wearing green shirts with John’s name on them.

Barbara described the fairgrounds as a second home, emphasizing the importance of allowing people and kids to see animals up close. When asked about advice for newlyweds, Barbara stressed the importance of not letting small issues cause friction in the relationship. The couple exchanged vows and re-exchanged rings during a simple and intimate ceremony amidst the bustling atmosphere of the Guilford fair.

The event was a heartwarming celebration of love, dedication, and community, as John and Barbara Hammarlund commemorated their 25th wedding anniversary in a meaningful and memorable way.
