In August, wealthy donors across the nation significantly contributed to super PACs backing Vice President Kamala Harris, former President Donald Trump, and various Democrats and Republicans. The largest donations were made to MAGA Inc., the super PAC supporting Trump, with Wisconsin roofing billionaire Diane Hendricks giving $10 million, Howard Lutnick of Cantor Fitzgerald and Paul Singer of Elliott Management giving $5 million each, and Annette Caldwell Simmons and Warren Stephens donating $2 million and $1 million respectively. On the Democratic side, tech entrepreneurs, including Dustin Moskovitz, Reed Hastings, and Jeff Lawson, donated to FF PAC, a super PAC supporting Harris. Moskovitz gave $3 million, while Hastings and Lawson, along with his wife Erica, each gave $1 million. These donations were made in the month leading up to Harris becoming the official Democratic presidential nominee. Super PACs like MAGA Inc. and FF PAC allow donors to contribute unlimited amounts, making them attractive to prolific political megadonors. In addition to these donations, conservative super PAC Club for Growth Action received $5 million each from Jeff Yass and Richard Uihlein, while House Majority PAC, which supports Democrats running for Congress, received $600,000 from Amos Hostetter Jr., who has a history of donating to anti-Trump groups.
