Officers open fire in West Haven, suspect killed


A person died in an officer-involved shooting in West Haven, Connecticut on Thursday afternoon. The incident took place at a car wash on Boston Post Road, where police were conducting an investigation. The suspect, a 36-year-old from New Haven, displayed a firearm, prompting officers to discharge their weapons, resulting in his death. The suspect’s identity has not been revealed yet, but police confirmed that he was known to them.

No law enforcement personnel were injured during the incident. New Haven Police Chief Karl Jacobson expressed regret over the situation, emphasizing the efforts made by the police to maintain safety. The Connecticut Office of the Inspector General is currently investigating the shooting.

Witnesses reported hearing gunshots during the confrontation, with video footage captured by a Dunkin’ Donuts employee showing a significant police presence at the scene. Centi Diaz, a nearby restaurant owner, described the sound of gunfire as “pop, pop, pop.”
