Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign has agreed to participate in a second debate with former President Donald Trump on Oct. 23, hosted by CNN. Harris’ campaign chair emphasized the importance of giving the American people another opportunity to see the candidates debate before they cast their ballots. Trump previously praised the format and setup of a CNN debate he attended in June, which he claimed to have won.
Harris had hinted at seeking another debate during an event in Georgia, and the statement from her campaign followed soon after. Trump, on the other hand, has made it clear that he does not see the need for a third debate, stating that it is too late as voting has already begun in some states. Despite this, the potential second debate would provide an opportunity for the two candidates to go head-to-head less than two weeks before Election Day.
The first debate between Trump and Harris took place on Sept. 10, hosted by ABC. An Oct. 23 debate would allow the candidates to address important issues and present their platforms to voters who have already started voting in multiple states. The decision to participate in a second debate reflects Harris’ commitment to engaging with the American people and providing them with important information as they make their voting decisions.
