The FBI, along with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Criminal Investigation Division and Coast Guard Investigative Services, boarded the Maersk Saltoro vessel managed by the same company responsible for the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge. The cargo ship, Dali, struck a support pillar of the bridge on March 26, resulting in its collapse and the deaths of six construction workers. The National Transportation Safety Board reported that the ship experienced power losses before the incident, leaving it unable to steer away from the bridge’s piers. The companies, Grace Ocean Private Limited and Synergy Marine Group, are being investigated for allegedly cutting corners and ignoring electrical problems on the Dali. The U.S. Justice Department filed a lawsuit against them in relation to the incident. The FBI and other agencies are conducting court-authorized law enforcement activities on the Maersk Saltoro, but further details have not been provided. NBC News has reached out to the companies and relevant authorities for comment. This is a developing story and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
