Coventry police have arrested two individuals and charged them with animal cruelty after a disturbing discovery on their property. Authorities found eight dead animals in a freezer and over 100 live animals in various conditions during a recent investigation. The police received a tip about the situation and spent weeks looking into the matter before taking action.
A variety of animals, including horses, pigs, dogs, cats, rabbits, goats, and different types of birds and fowl, were seized from the property when a search and seizure warrant was executed. The animals found in the freezer were sent for necropsies at UConn to determine the cause of death.
The suspects have been charged with multiple counts of animal cruelty, with one individual facing 119 counts and the other facing 19 counts. Despite the serious nature of the charges, both individuals have been released and are scheduled to appear in court on October 1.
This case serves as a reminder of the importance of reporting suspected animal cruelty to the authorities. The Coventry Police Department is urging anyone with information about animal cruelty or neglect to come forward. Animal welfare is a significant concern in the community, and law enforcement officials are dedicated to ensuring the safety and well-being of all animals.
