President Joe Biden has declared a major disaster in Connecticut following August’s historic flooding, leading to the approval of Individual Assistance for residents and business owners in New Haven, Fairfield, and Litchfield counties. The White House announced that assistance may include grants for temporary housing, home repairs, low-cost loans for uninsured property losses, and other programs to aid in recovery. Federal funding is also available for hazard mitigation measures on a cost-sharing basis statewide.
Impacted individuals and business owners can apply for assistance through various channels, including online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov, by calling 800-621-FEMA (3362), or through the FEMA App. Residents using relay services can also access help by providing the number for the appropriate service.
Connecticut Governor Lamont highlighted the significant damage caused by the historic weather event in western Connecticut, expressing that federal funding will support recovery efforts, especially for the rebuilding of uninsured infrastructure. The approval of the major disaster declaration will allow affected individuals to access the necessary support to aid in their recovery process.
