A 17-year-old teenager who was previously arrested and released in the fatal shooting of his father in Oklahoma has now been charged with killing his mother in Florida. The teenager is accused of fatally stabbing his mother at his grandmother’s home in Auburndale, northeast of Tampa. He faces charges of first-degree murder, kidnapping, and violating a no-contact order. The Polk County Sheriff is seeking to have the teen tried as an adult, but it is unclear if he has legal representation.
The incident occurred two days after the teen had an argument with his mother about chores and left their home for his grandmother’s house. The mother went to Auburndale on Sunday, where the stabbing took place. The teen called 911 and claimed his mother had fallen on a knife during a fight, but the medical examiner found his account unreasonable. Witnesses reported seeing the teen argue with his mother and pull her inside the house before the stabbing occurred.
It was revealed that the teen had previously claimed self-defense after fatally shooting his father in Oklahoma, but the charges were dropped due to lack of evidence to disprove his claim. He had also been arrested in Florida in November for assaulting his mother, leading to a domestic violence battery charge. The grandmother witnessed the assault and disputed the teen’s self-defense claim. The outcome of this case was not immediately clear. The district attorney’s office involved in the shooting case in Oklahoma could not be reached for comment.
