A former correction officer at the New Haven Correctional Center, Nicholas Kosa, has been sentenced to five years in prison, with three years suspended, for attempting to bring drugs into the facility. Kosa pleaded guilty to possession with intent to sell a controlled substance and admitted to smuggling narcotics, including Suboxone and cocaine, for an inmate. The Department of Correction discovered the drugs during a search of Kosa’s belongings when he arrived at work. Kosa stated that he was not receiving compensation for bringing in the drugs. Suboxone is a medication used to treat narcotic drug dependence. A total of 31 Suboxone strips and 3.7 grams of cocaine were found in Kosa’s possession. He was hired as a correction officer in 2023 but is no longer employed by the Department of Correction since August of the previous year. The State’s Attorney’s Office prosecuted the case, leading to Kosa’s sentencing. The case serves as a reminder of the consequences of attempting to smuggle contraband into correctional facilities. The Department of Correction remains vigilant in preventing illegal substances from entering prisons and will take action against employees who violate the law.
