A judge in Georgia presiding over the election interference case against Donald Trump and several co-defendants has thrown out three counts in the 41-count indictment, including two counts against the former president. The judge ruled that the counts involving accusations of perjury or false statements under federal jurisdiction could no longer stand. However, the judge did not dismiss the entire indictment. Trump’s lawyer praised the decision, stating that counts 15 and 27 must be quashed/dismissed. The challenge to the counts was brought by two other defendants, but the decision will also apply to Trump. The case is currently on hold pending an appeal on the decision not to disqualify prosecutor Fani Willis. In March, the judge dismissed six other counts, including three against Trump, citing a lack of information. The Georgia Court of Appeals is set to hear arguments on the appeal in December. Trump and his legal team have prevailed in this latest decision, but the case is ongoing with more legal proceedings to come.
