A remembrance ceremony was held in West Haven to honor the firefighters who responded during the 9/11 terror attacks in New York City. The ceremony, marking 23 years since the tragic event, included retired New York City firefighter Mickey Kross who survived the collapse of the north tower. Kross, who considers himself fortunate, shared his experience of being trapped under rubble and debris but miraculously surviving. He was recognized for his heroism during the ceremony, which also paid tribute to the 343 firefighters who died in the line of duty that day. West Haven Mayor Dorinda Borer highlighted the united front the country showed in the aftermath of 9/11, turning heartbreak and shock into resolve. Kross reiterated the importance of never forgetting that day and the sacrifices made by first responders. The ceremony was a solemn and poignant reminder of the impact of 9/11, with bagpipes playing and the flag raised to half-staff. Kross also attended a remembrance ceremony in New York City earlier in the day, showing his dedication to honoring the memory of those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001.
