Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy is urging the UK and US to make strong decisions as he seeks permission to use long-range weapons deep inside Russia. Zelenskiy met with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and British Foreign Secretary David Lammy in Kyiv to discuss the matter, emphasizing the importance of their decision. He also plans to present a “victory plan” to President Joe Biden this month, which he believes will strengthen Ukraine and pressure Russia to end the war. Lammy has pledged over £600 million in support for Ukraine from the UK. The visit comes as three civilians were killed in Russian attacks in eastern Ukraine, prompting calls for Russia to end its aggression.
Blinken emphasized the importance of standing with Ukraine and respecting its sovereignty, while Lammy expressed support for Ukraine’s needs and discussed various forms of assistance, including military equipment. The UK government has announced additional support for Ukraine, including air defense missiles and artillery ammunition, to be delivered by the end of the year. Meanwhile, the Russian government has hinted at potential collaboration with China in response to external aggression.
As the situation in Ukraine remains tense, world leaders continue to show their support for the country’s territorial integrity and sovereignty. Despite challenges and conflicting reports, Zelenskiy remains hopeful for a positive outcome in the ongoing conflict with Russia. The international community’s response to Ukraine’s needs will be crucial in determining the path forward and achieving peace in the region.
