Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont has announced that U.S. and state flags will be lowered to half-staff on Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2024, in honor of the nearly 3,000 people who lost their lives in the 2001 terrorist attacks. The Pearl Harbor Memorial Bridge in New Haven, also known as the Q Bridge, will be illuminated in red, white, and blue lights as a tribute to the victims.
A total of 161 people with ties to Connecticut were killed in the Sept. 11 attacks, and their names were released by the governor’s office. Lamont emphasized the importance of remembering and paying tribute to those who were lost on that tragic day.
The bridge was illuminated on Tuesday evening and will be lit up again on Wednesday at dusk until the early morning hours on Thursday. The governor’s decision to lower the flags and illuminated the bridge serves as a way to honor the memory of the victims and show solidarity with their families and loved ones.
The list of names released by the governor’s office includes individuals from all walks of life, including firefighters, lawyers, and business professionals. By honoring their memory, Connecticut residents hope to keep the memory of the tragic events of Sept. 11, 2001, alive in the hearts and minds of all who were affected.
