Oxford schools set to reopen following unprecedented floods

After historic flooding in Oxford, Connecticut, students were delayed in starting the school year due to road closures. However, after an eight-day delay, public school students in Oxford will finally be heading back to school on September 5th. Residents in the town expressed their relief at the schools reopening, highlighting the importance of getting kids back to school safely.

Despite the difficulties caused by road closures and safety concerns, the Superintendent and engineers have worked together to determine the best routes for school buses and create community bus stops in more damaged areas. Parents mentioned the challenges they faced in finding childcare and keeping their kids occupied during the unexpected delay.

Students eagerly shared their excitement at the prospect of returning to the classroom, with many looking forward to seeing their friends, engaging in recess activities, and enjoying lunch at school. The Superintendent noted that the missed days will need to be made up at the end of the school year in June.

Overall, the community in Oxford is grateful for the efforts made to reopen the schools and is looking forward to a successful school year despite the setback caused by the flooding.
