Harris and Walz give their inaugural television interview of the campaign on NBC Connecticut.

Kamala Harris, the Vice President of the U.S., recently defended shifting away from some of her more liberal policies in her first major television interview of her presidential campaign. Harris emphasized that her values have not changed, despite seeking consensus. The interview, conducted by CNN’s Dana Bash, aimed to address criticism that Harris avoids uncontrolled environments and to define her campaign ahead of the upcoming debate with former President Donald Trump.

During the interview, Harris expressed the importance of supporting the middle class and emphasized the need for a new way forward. She also addressed Trump’s remarks about her racial identity and stated that she would consider appointing a Republican to her Cabinet if elected.

Harris and her running mate, Tim Walz, are still introducing themselves to voters and aim to make inroads in GOP strongholds across Georgia. The surge in Democratic enthusiasm about voting gives them an advantage compared to earlier in the year, as Republicans’ enthusiasm has increased by a smaller margin. Harris encouraged supporters to work hard to elect her in November, highlighting concerns about Trump’s potential impact on women’s rights, the Affordable Care Act, and presidential immunity powers.

The campaign plans to launch a blitz on Labor Day with Joe Biden in Detroit and Pittsburgh, with the election rapidly approaching. The goal is to motivate voters in GOP-leaning areas and create viral moments that resonate with voters nationwide. As the first mail-in ballots are set to be sent in two weeks, Harris continues to campaign vigorously towards the upcoming election.
