Maryland dominates UConn 50-7 in season opener – NBC Connecticut

Maryland Terrapins dominate UConn Huskies in a 50-7 victory in their season opener on Saturday. Billy Edwards Jr. threw two touchdown passes to Tai Felton, showcasing his ability to lead the team following the departure of Taulia Tagovailoa. Edwards completed 20 of 27 passes for 311 yards and two TDs, while Felton caught seven passes for 178 yards and two touchdowns.

NC State transfer MJ Morris and Cameron Edge also saw playing time at quarterback, with Edge throwing a 24-yard touchdown pass late in the game. The Terps’ defense showed its strength by holding UConn to only one touchdown until late in the third quarter.

UConn struggled with targeting penalties, leading to the ejection of two defensive backs. Head coach Jim Mora expressed frustration with the calls and the team’s overall performance.

Maryland’s offense was firing on all cylinders, finishing with 629 total yards, the highest since 2020. The Terps extended their nonconference win streak to 13 games, highlighting their dominance outside of Big Ten play.

Looking ahead, UConn will face Merrimack next Saturday, while Maryland will host Michigan State. The Terrapins will aim to continue their winning streak and solidify their position as a strong contender in the Big Ten.
