Three people were rescued from an overturned boat in the Connecticut River over Labor Day Weekend, thanks to the quick actions of Good Samaritans. Fire crews from Haddam responded to the scene around 7:10 p.m. on Saturday and found the boat had capsized, leaving the occupants stranded in the water.
Fortunately, nearby boaters took action and rescued the three individuals from the water before the fire crews could arrive. The rescuers were able to safely bring the stranded individuals to safety as the fire crews deployed marine units to the scene.
Following the rescue, all three people were evaluated by medical personnel, but ultimately refused any further treatment. The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection is now investigating the incident to determine the cause of the boat overturning.
The actions of the Good Samaritans in this situation are a reminder of the importance of quick thinking and helping others in times of need. The individuals were fortunate that nearby boaters were able to assist in their rescue, ultimately preventing a potentially dangerous situation from escalating further.
As the investigation continues, authorities are reminding boaters to always prioritize safety and to be prepared for emergencies while out on the water. The quick response in this case likely prevented a more serious outcome, highlighting the importance of being vigilant and looking out for others when enjoying recreational activities on the water.
