Trump’s legal team claims business partners were ‘pleased’ in recent court filings for New York civil fraud appeal

Former President Donald Trump’s lawyers have filed briefs with the Appellate Division First Department in New York, arguing that the civil fraud case against Trump earlier this year was flawed and that there were no victims. They claim that the case has passed the statute of limitations and that Trump’s business partners benefitted greatly from the transactions in question, making over $100 million in profits. The case involves allegations that Trump and his family engaged in a scheme to improperly inflate his assets, allowing him to obtain favorable loan and insurance rates.

Trump’s lawyers dispute the court’s valuation of Mar-a-Lago and argue that his net worth is far greater than what was reflected in the financial statements at the center of the case. They claim that Trump’s business partners were not deceived and were paid back on time. The New York state lawyers, on the other hand, argue that there is overwhelming evidence that Trump lied about his wealth for years and engaged in fraud and illegality on a large scale.

Separately, Trump’s attorneys are challenging sanctions imposed on the trial attorneys for making what they say were “good faith” legal arguments. They argue that it is appropriate for attorneys to make arguments that a trial judge may disagree with in order to preserve them for appellate review. Oral arguments before the Appellate Court are scheduled to begin on Sept. 26.
