A 32-year-old woman has stabbed and injured six people on a bus in the western German city of Siegen. The suspect, a German national, was arrested after the attack, which occurred while at least 40 people were on the bus. Three of the victims sustained life-threatening injuries, according to local authorities.
Police are currently working to establish a motive for the attack but have stated that there are no indications it was terrorism-related. This incident follows a deadly knife attack in Solingen a week prior, where a 26-year-old Syrian national killed three people and wounded eight others. The suspect in the Solingen attack was due for deportation after his asylum application was rejected.
In response to these incidents, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s government has introduced new restrictions on carrying knives in public places. Additionally, convicted criminals are now being deported back to Afghanistan for the first time since the Taliban regained power in 2021, following a deal facilitated by Qatar.
The recent string of violent incidents has raised concerns about public safety and security in Germany. Authorities are working to understand the motives behind these attacks and to ensure the safety of all residents and visitors in the country.
