A 32-year-old woman is currently fighting for her life in the hospital after being stabbed at the Notting Hill carnival, according to the Metropolitan police. Two other individuals, a 29-year-old man and a 24-year-old man, were also stabbed during the annual event, with the former sustaining non-life threatening injuries. Fortunately, none of the 15 officers who were assaulted during the celebration were seriously harmed.
The police revealed that a total of 90 arrests were made on Sunday, with offenses ranging from assault on an emergency worker to drug possession and robbery. The spokesperson for the force stated that while hundreds of thousands of people attended the carnival peacefully, a minority chose to engage in criminal activities and violence.
The police had been granted additional search powers in order to prevent further violence following the stabbing incident. Arrests were also made related to possession of nitrous oxide, theft, and public order offenses. Despite these incidents, the police reassured the public that a carefully planned policing operation had been in place to ensure the safety of attendees.
The Notting Hill carnival is known as a vibrant and diverse celebration of Caribbean culture, with music, dancing, and colorful costumes. However, the recent violent incidents have raised concerns about the safety of the event and the need for increased security measures in the future.
